So one of the earliest manifestations of my #28YearsLater series has come to light. It was way back in 2010 when I put up the teaser artwork for this then-unrecorded track. And that wasn't even Heidi in that pic, it was Charlize Theron, lol. It wasn't until the last month or so that it was formed into its current incarnation. I really wish I didn't have to do this show. At least not like this. I had a whole other idea on how to approach VJR Show #8 but fate, being the mean bitch that she is, intervened. Whitney Houston passed away on February 11, 2012. I was asleep when the news broke and I've been in a state of denial ever since. Now that this podcast is completed, it's really hit me that Whitney is gone. Despite all the hard times she had fallen on in the past 10 years or so, Ms. Houston has always been one of the greats to me. Some of my earliest music memories began with her, especially considering music was becoming relevant to me around the time she put out I'm Your Baby Tonight and The Bodyguard soundtrack. It saddens me that I have to first celebrate her music on VJR under these circumstances but it's a fitting way for me to cope I suppose. I hope the music of this show brings you a tenth of the happiness that it has for me in my life. I love you Whitney.

BDL Sports: Brogue Kick To Wrestlemania XXVIII

Welcome back folks. Sorry for the delay, I was a little busy promoting a birthday show I had on the 21^st. But now that my 29^th birthday has come and gone, let’s get back to business.
Sheamus is your 2012 Royal Rumble winner.

The Great White. Or as my friend Moose calls him, “an angry glass of milk”.

This was…unexpected.

The way I had it laid out, Chris Jericho (who was the runner-up) was supposed to win the Rumble. And by winning his first Rumble, this would allow Jericho to challenge CM Punk for his WWE Title at Wrestlemania XXVIII.

So now what?

I applaud WWE for going with the unpredictable. I had also heard rumors Randy Orton winning his second Rumble because it was in his hometown St. Louis.

But now this throws everything up in the air. CM Punk is still in an unresolved feud with Interim Raw GM John Laurinaitis. Although all signs point to him being fired by Triple H on tonight’s Raw SuperShow, I suspect HHH will do nothing. This will lead to Laurinaitis definitely screwing Punk out of his Title at the Elimination Chamber PPV in February, if not sooner.

Maybe the Jericho/Punk feud has been put on the backburner. The right build could help one of WWE’s weaker second quarter PPV’s.

Sheamus will choose which belt he wants to challenge for. As a SmackDown Superstar, it is assumed he’ll go for Daniel Bryan’s World Heavyweight Title (which he retained against Mark Henry & Big Show at the Rumble). With Henry injured again, I could see him and Big Show being taken out of the SmackDown Title picture for the time being.

If they pull a 180 and have Sheamus challenge Punk for his belt, that would be really interesting. While Bryan still bores me as far as carrying a feud, putting the ‘tweener Sheamus against the WWE’s hottest star could make for good drama. I always thought Sheamus did an excellent job during his feud with John Cena in 2009.

The Rumble match was much improved over 2011’s event. While WWE seems to shy away from having more than 8 Superstars in a ring at once now, the combatants that were in for any amount of time were impressive. Even the surprise entries like Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Booker T, Michael Cole, and Jerry Lawler entertained.

The moment that had me excited was seeing the Road Dogg Jesse James in official WWE action for the first time in years. When I started watching WWE in 1998, Road Dogg was easily my favorite member of D-Generation X. Seeing him do his thing in an official capacity even for a few moments was great.

And Chris Jericho finally decided we were worthy of his presence. After weeks of saying nothing and pulling off one of the better heel turns in recent memory, he entered the ring at #29 and took Sheamus to the wire. Showing absolutely no signs of ring rust, the Walls of Jericho and a Code Breaker still weren’t enough to put the Great White down for the count. Of course, it never helps to be standing outside the ropes when a Brogue Kick comes your way.

Randy Orton also looked sharp as ever despite his time off from a back injury. His feud with Wade Barrett has me really looking forward to the moment they get in the ring against each other again.

In other matches, The Divas of Doom (Beth Phoenix & Natalya) and the Bella Twins defeated Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres, Alicia Fox, and Tamina.

Brodus Clay squashed Drew McIntyre. I’m really enjoying Clay’s Funkasaurus angle. It’s silly but the fact he’s running up the ranks looks good. I would imagine Great Khali, Mason Storm, or Ezekial Jackson would be a decent feud that would get him into more serious competition.

Punk retained in a great match with Ziggler that was overshadowed by John Laurinaitis’ actions as a special guest referee. He didn’t count when Punk nailed a clean GTS. He routinely tried to intimidate Punk and distracted him. And then he counted, with the unbiased ref he had brought to the ring with him, as Punk nailed a second GTS for the win. Moment of the match had to be when Ziggler nailed Punk with the Zig-Zag after being prone on Punk’s shoulders for a GTS. Punk kicked out but it looked great.

The fact Mark Henry got hurt and dropped his World Title has made me less and less interested in the Bryan/Show/Henry feud. Show has been great but I cannot stand Bryan. He has the charisma of one of these dirty tissues I keep producing from this cold. I don’t care for AJ Lee or him. His wrestling is good but that’s about it. And I really hate to see Show continue to lose World Title matches “by this much”. Hopefully a Sheamus/Bryan feud could get me caring again.

And John Cena and Kane fought to a no-contest. Zack Ryder got the crap knocked out of him again. Eve cried some more. Cena looked pissed.

The same thing has been happening for a month on Raw. I’m glad I didn’t pay for the same thing I can see on Raw every week.

The only way this angle could pay off is for my theory on this whole mess to happen:

Cena gets tired of getting destroyed by Kane and he embraces the hate. By embracing the hate, he becomes brainwashed into believing the jargon Kane’s been spewing. This leads to his “heel turn” where he actually stops caring and starts destroying everything in his path. Eventually, The Rock will return. Words will be said, tag team matches will be held on Raw, all leading up to Wrestlemania. At Wrestlemania, during their epic year in the making match, Cena will break Kane’s hold over him; The Rock will probably put him over for the win. Cena will go back to being a face and a Rock/Cena rematch will be held at SummerSlam. With Cena finally settling the score with Kane at some point.

That’s how I would write it anyway.

In closing though, only one thing can be said about the 2012 Royal Rumble:

Kofi Kingston’s handstand was awesome.

BDL Sports: TLC Is Upon Us…and Kane’s Back

I've said before that being a fan of pro wrestling is a game of highs and lows. After last week's episodes of Raw and SmackDown, I was amped. Ready to write. But then life and finishing my CM Punk article intervened and this week's episodes of Raw and SmackDown rolled around.

And yes, SmackDown is taped. Let's not be childish about this. If you don't want spoilers, click to something else.

The 2011 Slammy Awards were held on Raw and they gave us a terrible rap battle, Lita and Road Dogg's return, and a tribute to Raw Interim General Manager John Laurinaitis.

And that was it. Well, until Kane showed up and sent Mark Henry running and John Cena to the mat. That was cool. Glad to have him back in the mask. Of course that shoots my January 2, 2012 theory to shit. More on that later.

I enjoy a good awards show. Probably why I sit through so many of them throughout the year. Or maybe I enjoy a good live tweet session (@BHYPHEN). Who knows. But the Slammys don't need to be on Raw. Why not run Raw live Monday, tape SmackDown Tuesday, tape or broadcast the Slammys live for Thursday or Saturday, broadcast SmackDown Friday, and have TLC Sunday?

Does that make too much sense? Run it the same way that the Hall of Fame ceremonies are done. Let the wrestlers be really real.

The Slammys really made Raw go too long. Especially for an episode where NOTHING happened until Kane showed up.

On top of that, SmackDown turned around and produced a really boring show. So boring that I won't even talk about anything that happened because it changed NOTHING for TLC.

Granted, it's the last PPV of 2012. WWE is about to start building for their best run of the year, the Road to Wrestlemania. I'm not too angry.

The one thing Raw did right was Kane's return. I thought for sure he would be the big return on 1/2/12 but they rolled him out to save an otherwise boring show. I don't agree with him going right after Mark Henry though. Sure, Kane was one of Henry's first victims of the Hall of Pain but can't he do something else? Henry is already in a great feud with Big Show so why try to throw the Big Red Machine in the mix?

I would personally have him feud with Daniel Bryan. With Bryan still holding onto that Money In The Bank briefcase, it wouldn't hurt him to have some quality matches against a monster to add to his credibility.

Oh. Almost forgot though, Triple H took the ring for the first time since Kevin Nash attacked him. Classic HHH promo. He also planted the seeds for a rematch with the Undertaker at 'Mania XXVIII. I'm a little upset that 'Taker won't face someone new but I'm willing to see The Game face off with the Dead Man again.

As for this promo for January 2, it has to be Chris Jericho. I don't care what he says on Twitter. I'm sure he would lose a lot of money for confirming beforehand but it has to be him. Hopefully my dream of a match with Punk isn't far-fetched. Just in case though, other canidates:

Dolph Ziggler v. Zack Ryder (U.S. Title)

Can I just give Ziggler my most improved award now (note to self, write year-end awards article)? The man has been wrestling multiple matches the last few PPVs and he's entertaining on the mic. He's at that spot where Miz was when he and Cena feuded before, when Miz made the 'Cena Sucks” shirts. I started telling people then he would be a top heel. Hold your applause. I have Ziggler winning this one. Not cleanly though. Ryder is getting a huge push but if he wins the U.S. belt it will be on the under card of Wrestlemania.

Cody Rhodes v. Booker T (Intercontinental Title)

Really? Really? Really? Look, I like Booker T as much as the next guy ( I hate King Booker though) but giving a SmackDown announcer a title shot? You know how this will end. Rhodes wins. And Cody has actually been fun to watch since he gave up his Rip Hamilton (BULLS) mask. If Book wins, it'll be a short reign until the SmackDown taping.

Triple H v. Kevin Nash (Sledgehammer Match)

I think this match is solely to get Nash more ring ready for his eventual match against Punk. Why not do it with a trusted friend? I'm taking Nash on this one but I expect someone to run down for the save so that Hunter doesn't get whipped too bad.

Mark Henry v. Big Show (World Title)

Two big men. In a chairs match. I don't expect another draw (or as I call it, Show/Lesnar II) but this one should be good. Henry will favor his hurt foot most of the match but in the end I expect Show to pull it out. Henry has held the World Title since Night of Champions. I could see him stepping down and winning it again at the Royal Rumble. I also could see Daniel Bryan cashing in on either one of these Superstars.

Randy Orton v. Wade Barrett

As much as I love Randy, I'm pretty sure he's going to put Barrett over and make him a legit contender for the World Title. Should be a good match and it's a tables match.

CM Punk v. The Miz v. Alberto Del Rio (WWE Title)

It might be too soon to take the belt off Punk. Of course, I'd say that this time next year if he never lost it. But let's look at the scenarios. If Punk wins, it sets it up perfect for Jericho to come back on the second, win the Rumble, and then challenge Punk at Wrestlemania XXVIII. If Del Rio wins, it puts Punk or Miz in a position to win the Rumble and challenge whoever has the belt (maybe Jericho?). If Miz wins, it puts Punk in a position to win the Rumble and challenger whoever has the belt (maybe Jericho?). I honestly don't see them letting ADR win the Rumble again. And I really hope it goes back down to 30 entries. 2010?s Rumble was so disappointing.

As you can see, all my scenarios include Jericho coming back. I'd be lost if not.

Seriously though, I'd like to see Miz win. Then he and Punk can square off through the Elimination Chamber PPV where Punk recaptures the title and faces the Royal Rumble winner at 'Mania.

I'd also like to point out Sheamus and John Cena aren't on the card. Those two wild cards could show up at any time though so I expect something from at least one of them.

I don't know how the buyrates will fare but it should be a decent PPV as long as WWE has pulled the trigger on some changes by Raw Monday.

We'll just have to see.

Before I finish off this long overdue article, let me respond to some of the comments from part 1.

HHH could have still come back and taken over the company when he did... but just not use CM Punk to wipe his feet on.
Maybe it was the WWE's typical 3 month push. Like Miz & R-Truth received earlier this year.

I'm not mad at the way Punk used his shoot to get the title. As much as I loved the WWE and watched it consistently, Punk going off on everyone lit a fire that I hadn't seen in a very long time. By now, we all see that this angle was planned but I've seen several interviews with members of the WWE that say Punk is rarely told what to say. Chances are, he was truly shooting from the hip. While it does pull back the curtain, I feel a certain need for realism is needed in wrestling today. It's not the days of face vs. heel anymore. It's important to talk about real life contracts and to have wrestlers mention when other wrestlers aren't getting their due (like Cena has done for Zack Ryder). Without the curtain being raised a bit, you get a truly stale product that UFC (yuck) will eventually eclipse.

And he did win the title by being the best. He beat Del Rio cleanly to become the number 1 contender for Cena's title before his shoot/work rant. He beat Cena cleanly to win the belt. He thought he had beaten Cena cleanly at SummerSlam. All his rant did was change him from a heel to a 'tweener and ultimately to a face by the time he won the belt from Cena.

I agree with Triple H and Nash riding the CM Punk train. I'll discuss that more in a little bit.

I also agree with having Punk stay gone longer and I think that was the original plan. But after his "Best In The World" t-shirt started selling crazy and especially after how well Cena helped him get over at Money In The Bank, it would've been bad business to keep him away. Especially until January or April. All those months go by without Punk being around and nobody gives a shit by the time he shows again. WWE struck while the iron was hot and were right to do it.

And as much as I'd like to see it, an Undisputed Title reign isn't going to happen for a while longer. Not while WWE has two shows on cable TV a week. I can only hope the Spinner Belt will be put to rest soon.
And I'll use your 3 month push comment to get into the meat of the article. Punk's 3 month push from June to August was the most exciting thing to happen to WWE since the night The Rock announced he was the host of Wrestlemania XXVII. For awhile now, Cena and Randy Orton had run as the number 1 and number 2 superstars of the WWE but once Punk's angle hit, Cena had legitimate competition.

I ended last article asking why Punk was booked into a feud with the returning HHH/Kevin Nash. I think my time away from this topic has actually helped me figure it out as well:

WWE had no choice.

Sure, it absolutely sucked for the new Punk fans (me) who wanted to see ol' Phil run ripshod over any and everyone. But if they had left the Title on Punk or even kept him in the title picture, his popularity may have faded quickly. By putting him in a feud with a veteran heel (Nash then HHH) it allowed Punk to still maintain his baby face all while getting to be a complete dick to Hunter and Nash (and Stephanie McMahon). If Punk stayed in the Cena feud, he risked becoming a heel again just because of Cena's overwhelming popularity. And then he would just become another Miz or Sheamus by having a brief title run but the power of Cena would eventually rule the day. WWE didn't want that and neither did Punk.

Thus, you get the Nash/HHH feud. I still maintain that it featured some of the most dreadful writing of 2011. Apparently Nash had stolen Hunter's phone and texted himself and that's why he cost CM Punk his belt at SummerSlam. A match was set between Nash and Punk for Night of Champions but HHH replaced Nash when he got sick of Punk talking about Stephanie (Nash wasn't medically cleared to wrestle in reality). Nash still got involved at NoC by attacking Punk and was in turn attacked by Triple H. The interference was enough to cost Punk the win.

Phil then reentered the WWE Title picture by competing against Cena and Del Rio at Hell In A Cell but lost when ADR used a steel pipe to gain victory. The Miz & R-Truth then came out of nowhere to attack all three wrestlers before Triple H and the rest of the locker room came out to end the chaos.

Punk and Hunter then put their differences aside to face Awesome Truth at Vengeance. Nash again interfered but attacked Triple H this time which cost the duo the tag team win.

Now during this time is when I wrote first part of this article. I was really pissed that the WWE wasn't using CM Punk the way I saw fit. But I didn't even realize that by entering this feud, not only did Punk get ring time with some future WWE Hall of Famers, he also didn't lose any of his summer momentum. Even though I thought Punk was stuck in a shit storyline, he emerged from it unscathed. And he managed another WWE Title shot in between it all.

In current storylines, Punk is in a feud with ADR and Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis. After forcing Del Rio to grant him a WWE Title rematch from his SummerSlam loss, Punk went on to Survivor Series and won his second WWE Title in what I thought was the match of the night.

Punk successfully defended his title against Del Rio on the November 28th edition of Raw and has been booked to face The Miz (who is finally getting back to his best heel in the WWE business) and ADR on December 18th at the 2011 Tables, Ladders, and Chairs PPV. With only one more week to build before the PPV, I expect the three to end up in some kind of tag team match that will involve Cena on the December 12th Raw.

I personally would like to see Punk carry the belt still after TLC but more than likely Miz will win and that will be his new feud through the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber PPVs. Punk could potentially carry the belt to Wrestlemania XXVIII but even I'm not sure who he'll face. The winner of the Rumble will probably want to challenge for the WWE Title since Daniel Bryan has said he will cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase at WM 28 (though it's been teased lately that he'll use it sooner). Bryan will more than likely face whomever the World Heavyweight Title is on (I'm betting against Mark Henry) at that time.

Predictions? Chris Jericho returns at the Royal Rumble, wins and sets up an epic Punk/Jericho match at WM 28. Punk has some history with Jericho dating back to his first World Ttitle reign in 2008. I'd enjoy that match...and I will live from Miami. Just saying.

Or maybe Punk will be put out of action after the TLC PPV. Perhaps he'll get a well deserved month off and return in time for the Rumble. Maybe, he'll win the battle royal and get to challenge whoever is holding the WWE Title by then.

But I really hope for Jericho.

So I retract my previous comments. WWE and Phil did not drop the ball. They just proved that sometimes the storylines you hate are actually better for business in the long run. Or maybe I'm just happy the belt's on Punk. If it wasn't this article may have been a lot different.

The world may never know.

The Timelines of Misfits

Being the nerd fresh originator that I am and to prove that this is my actual blog, I want to talk about something serious today. Mainly, the timelines of Misfits.

The reason I think I'm even writing this is because I watched a Community episode OnDemand called "Remedial Chaos Theory". In it, Abed tells Jeff that by rolling a die, new timelines are formed. Also, being the Back To The Future buff that I am, I couldn't resist wondering how time travel played out on this new UK show that I can't stop watching.

So in Series One, Curtis has the power to go back in time. The way I see it, every time Curtis goes back in time and changes something that already happened. He's creating a new timeline. Try to follow along.

Also: SPOILERS.

In Series 1, Episode 1 (S1E1): Curtis uses his power for the first time after the probation worker kills Kelly. He only goes back in time a few minutes but stops Kelly from opening the door, preventing her murder. This begins Timeline 2.

Timeline 2 continues until S1E3 when Sally discovers Tony and Gary's bodies in the boot (trunk) of her car. Curtis rewinds time and warns the others, resulting in Nathan smashing a brick into Sally's windshield, preventing her discovery. Timeline 3 begins.

Timeline 3 lasts until S1E4 when Curtis goes back in time in the middle of the night. This is the first time any lengthy period of time passes while Curtis is in the past. I assume that since it is night, the other characters are in a stasis of sorts until Curtis returns to their present. Curtis goes back to the night he got busted with his then-girlfriend Sam to put things right so that she doesn't go to prison. In his first attempt, she is stabbed and he flashes back again which creates Timeline 4. In this timeline, he avoids bad consequences befalling anyone and when he returns to the present, he is an Olympic hopeful again. Turns out that because of this, the other Misfits were killed by Tony minus Nathan due to his immortality. I like to also refer to this as Timeline 1A since it was the most likely result of Timeline 1 before Curtis' interference. Curtis goes back again and makes sure he takes a fall but Sam doesn't and creates Timeline 5. The only difference when he returns is that Sam is still his girlfriend.

Timeline 5 has several mini Timelines branched from it, mostly due to Curtis' inability to break up with Sam. Every time he tries he feels guilty and flashes back to before he broke up with her. As no major changes took place other than their relationship not ending, I don't deem it necessary to call any of these an official Timeline. When Curtis does finally end it with Sam, it is still Timeline 5.

Timeline 6 begins in S2E6 when Curtis goes back in time after Brian has killed all of the Misfits and several other storm-powered people. Brian was the first person to come out publicly with his powers and as the news snowballed, so did Brian's limelight. Jealous, he uses his dairy manipulation powers (scarier than I expected) to kill anyone who gets in his way. Curtis is lactose intolerant and resists Brian's powers. After Simon is killed saving him, he tells Curtis to go back and make things right. This is the first and only time we see Curtis use his power at will. Timeline 6 is created when Curtis tells the group about Brian and they arrive at his door with Curtis' fist ending any future threat he had.

Now this is when my "other characters are is stasis" theory gets challenged. In this episode, Alisha tells Simon that Superhoodie was a future version of himself. The stasis theory would go with the idea that no one else except Curtis remembers the previous Timeline's events unless told. Yet in the "Christmas Special", Simon is well aware of his future self. One could assume Alisha told him again in the new Timeline since it's never explicitly explained.

In the "Christmas Special", Curtis sells away his time manipulation power and it is sold to an old man who plans to kill Hitler. Well...

In S3E4, the old man goes back in time to kill Hitler...with a knife. His attempt is stopped by Adolf and before the old man flashes forward to the present, he drops his cell phone. The old man returns to a Nazi-ruled Britain thanks to the technology he left in the past and makes Timeline 7. The power dealer, Seth, is captured by the Nazis and the old man gives the time manipulation power to him before he dies from his injuries. Seth is forced to give the power to Curtis, who then gets killed by the Nazis. The remaining Misfits turn on the Nazis to save Seth and when he's dying from a gunshot, Seth tells Kelly he didn't give the power to Curtis. He passes it to her thru a kiss and Kelly goes back to the day the old man dropped his phone. She headbutts Hitler and he drops it. Kelly retrieves it and flashes back to the present day where she sees the old man walking away, alive and happy. Welcome to Timeline 8.

Couple things tho. Kelly walks into Hitler's office right after the old man flashes out. He had to in order for Kelly to be there in the first place. BUT when he goes back to Timeline 7, he dies. Yet when Kelly creates Timeline 8, he's alive. With this being the first time multiple characters have went back into time, it creates a paradox. The old man should not have lived. By living, it's implying that he never received the power in the first place. But he did in Timeline 6. Unless Kelly goes back to a variation of Timeline 5 (or 5A). Then the old man doesn't have the power but it would mean the Misfits would all have their original powers again (they don't). I guess it was to give the old man a happy ending. Maybe I just didn't care enough about him to see him alive again.

The other thing that bugs me is the passage of time. This episode takes place over the course of at least 3 days and according to my stasis theory, none of the other Misfits will know time passes unless told. But Alisha walks out of the locker room at episode's end and asks her where she's been which clearly acknowledges that time passed while the old man and Kelly were gone. Kelly is the only one who remembers Timeline 7 or Alisha would've mentioned something about living in a Nazi controlled setting. Maybe the writers just lost their heads since it was the final lines of the show.

And back to the old man not dying. If he remembers Timeline 7 along with Kelly, maybe, just maybe he lives. But then again, Kelly didn't stop him from being attacked by Hitler, she just took the phone from him. The attack still happened, therefore the old man must die! Dammit, lol.

So there is the long and short of the Timelines of Misfits. I don't plan on updating this unless the time travel thing becomes a regularly featured power again but you never know. And I just spent 90 minutes writing this, lol.

B Hyphen - Originals Is No More

So in case you saw it, a new release from me entitled Originals hit the digital outlets on December 1st. It consisted of all the original material I had released since 2007. But after further review, I've taken Originals down (it'll eventually be down anyway).

My main reasoning was that I didn't have exclusive rights to all the songs, not excluding 2008's "Champion". Now, while I was aware of this when I put the album up for digital distribution, I didn't think little ol' me would have any trouble from the maybe 10+ copies I would sell. As I said before, it was really a test run for any future digital releases I planned.

I didn't have any serious trouble but I was reminded by a colleague of mine that "Champion" didn't truly belong to me. Upon discovering that I couldn't remove individual tracks, I opted to pay the $15 to have it removed from the 30+ digital outlets I had just paid $35 for. End of issue.

I planned on re-releasing Originals on my Bandcamp site for free with an option to contribute money for the download. But after I made a remark to a friend that he should just download the free versions of the songs instead, it kind of lost its point to sell Originals at all. Sure it would've been nice to get a couple sales. And it was really cool seeing my music on iTunes. But why try to sell music I've already given away for free?

So I decided not to put Originals up at all. If anyone did/does manage to buy a track or the whole release before it is taken down, thank you. Hopefully you'll still support me when I drop my album in 2012.

Which brings me to another question...do I really need to sell my album at all? Even on Bandcamp? While the album will feature all original material (with permission), am I just hurting myself by trying to get people to buy? I do have a fanbase but I almost feel like I'm cheating them by asking for their money so they can listen to it.

One of my favorite albums to come out of West Virginia in the past few years has been Profit Money's Redshift|Blueshift. When it came time to release it, I helped Profit put it on Bandcamp (which earned me an executive producer credit) and he asked how much he should charge for it. I suggested the free download with the option to pay what you want (a la Radiohead) and the album was released. Unfortunately, the double album never received the recognition I thought it deserved, let alone Profit. But still he made a decent amount from those who thought they should pay to have the album.

But enough ranting. In short, if you would like any of the 11 tracks that were featured on Originals, you can find them on Volume Three, With Great Power..., Winning Time: Black Mamba Edition, and Spideyville Unlimited. When my album is ready to go sometime in the coming months, I'll create a webpage for it on BHyphen.com. There will be a direct link and a pay what you want link that will lead to my Bandcamp site. And I'll promote the hell out of it.

The worst thing to come out of this is seeing the true colors in someone you thought you were friends with. Or maybe you saw the true colors the whole time and just chose to be color blind. Oh well.

I originally planned to shoot a video for this song but I really felt that was a shit way to honor Meuwl's memory. Getting views from his passing and all. So I made this lyric video consisting of the pictures taken from MeuwlFest 2010 & 2011. I figured it was a more fitting tribute to his memory. The man was a legend. I'm just ashamed I didn't realize it more while he was still here.

I redesign BHyphen.com a lot. Since I bought the domain in 2004, it's kind of been my obsession. Blame it on my lack of updated web design skills but I always felt I could do better.

When I had a huge amount of free time on my hands this past summer, I attempted to make BHyphen.com into the central site for my Hyphen Conglomerate promotion idea. That didn't stick. More recently, I tried to go with a comic rack style approach but I didn't even like that. So a few weeks ago, I deleted what was online and started from scratch.

And I may have my best design ever. Some features:

Why I Unoccupied Facebook

The reason I deactivated my Facebook for the month of November is simple: I spend too much time on it. No matter what else I'm doing, Facebook is always up. I constantly find distractions that take up my precious free time. I stopped with the games ages ago but I'm still a full blown addict.

By deactivating, I can't use the site without reactivating and letting everyone know I'm a chump. No more emails. No more text updates. Complete freedom from Zuckerberg's zombie machine.

What I hope to accomplish while away from Facebook:

Participate in NaNoWriMo. For serious this time. I need to start on this novel.
Get back into writing fanfiction. Fromme has been on my back for years now.
Record new episodes of Victory Jumpoff Radio and (gasp) Two Webshooters & A Microphone
Redesign B Hyphen.com
Spend time with people in the real world.
Write new music.
Record new music.
Enjoy a Facebook free life.

Chiv said he didn't think I'd even return once I deactivated and only time will tell. I think in some sense, I'll come back. But I definitely think I'll approach the Facebook monster in a different way.

B Hyphen - What It Look Like (Official Video)

I'm still not sure how we got here, lol. By that, I mean that "What It Look Like" was the one video I had wanted to shoot since I recorded it in early 2010. I didn't know how I was going to do it or if I would even get to shoot it. But if the opportunity arose, I would take it.

Fast forward to April 2011. I was having a phone conversation with David "DJ Prodigy" Hill when he mentioned he was thinking about getting into shooting videos and said he'd be glad to shoot a video for me. Several meetings, a couple photo/video shoots, and a few drunken nights later, I give you the finished product.

Dave kept saying to me how he wished "What It Look Like" had a theme or a story so we'd have a better idea of what to shoot. I kept saying I would make it work when I edited the footage. I think between Dave, his partner-in-crime Jackson Wolfe, and myself, we got something.

Another goal scratched off the list. Triple Threat Productions and I give you: "What It Look Like".

This is the time of year where I have Raw on but I’m not paying attention. The past few weeks worth of programming proves exactly why.

The Hell in a Call PPV came and went. Alberto Del Rio regained the WWE Title. The Miz and R-Truth snuck into the arena but ended up arrested.

Everyone on Raw (aside from John Cena, Sheamus, Randy Orton, and CM Punk) gave a vote of no-confidence in Triple H as the GM of Raw and walked out. He was removed one week later by Vince McMahon and replaced by John Laurinaitis. Miz and Truth got their jobs back.

Big Show also returned and restarted his feud with World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry. Henry had injured Show at SummerSlam.

WWE Vengeance is this Sunday. Here’s the card:

If I seem a little underwhelmed by all these events, you caught me. After a promising summer (another usually boring part of the WWE’s year), WWE has seemed to throw all of their storylines out the window in favor of treading water.

Their best storyline with Mark Henry and Randy Orton? Stopped because of Big Show returning. Why not have a Triple Threat match with Orton, Show, and Henry?

Del Rio and Cena again. Now that WWE’s Mexico run is over, ADR will be dropping the strap at some point.

Air Boom vs. Ziggler and Swagger again. Unless they’re actually gonna put the belts on Ziggler and Swagger, what’s the point? They’ve both become cannon fodder for Zack Ryder in the past month anyway.

Cody vs. Randy? Do we really need to revisit the Legacy storyline when Cody hasn’t gotten any better since Legacy broke up in 2010?

And I’m not speaking on the CM Punk match here.

The only logical reasoning I can find for the mess WWE has become in recent weeks is due to one thing:
The Rock is coming back to wrestle at November’s Survivor Series.

In recent years, the WWE has relied on its Hall of Fame alumni to boost storylines and ratings. None bigger than their usage of The Rock at Wrestlemania XXVII as guest host. His guest host spot lead to the booking of The Rock vs. John Cena a year in advance. And now, in order to get ring ready for Wrestlemania XXVIII, The Rock will supposedly take part in a match at Survivor Series.

And while there has been no official mention of this by the WWE, it seems that right around the time the news came out about The Rock, the storylines have gotten horrible. The employee walk out. The removal of Triple H as Raw GM. The firing of JR. Having Michael Cole wrestle. Having John Morrison job to everyone (though rumor has it that his contract is almost up). I don’t think anyone with WWE knows what the plan is until 5 minutes before the Superstars hit the ring.

The WWE is indeed out of control but it’s not because Triple H was in charge of Raw. Maybe once The Rock in back in the mix, the storylines will get better, more focused. Or maybe I should just lower my expectations until January.

BDL Sports: CM Funk: How WWE & Phil Dropped The Ball Part 1

I tried to give this article more time. I did. CM Punk has been on fire since right after the Capital Punishment PPV when he sat down on the Raw stage and cut the promo of a lifetime on everybody who mattered in the WWE. He faced the biggest name in the wrestling business, John Cena, and was actually booked to win. And when Vince McMahon charged Alberto Del Rio out with his Money In The Bank briefcase to steal the WWE Title back from Punk, the Voice of the Voiceless dodged the bullet and disappeared into the crowd. Unsigned and with the WWE Title in tow.

Easily the coolest shit I had seen in years.

And the WWE and Phil (Punk’s real name) messed it up.

The random twitter pictures of Punk gallivanting around Chicago with the belt were awesome. It was the closest Wrigley Field had come to a title since 1908 (anyone watch Catching Hell by the way? Stupid Bartman.). Raw went on with McMahon announcing a tournament to declare a new WWE champion and before Rey Mysterio and The Miz could face off in the final, Vince took the ring to fire Cena (a stipulation of losing to Punk at the Money In The Bank PPV the night before). Before the hammer fell though, Triple H returned and let Vince know that he had actually been relived of his duties and that he was now the new WWE COO.

Raw couldn’t lose.

Punk even invaded a WWE Comic Con panel and waved his WWE Title in Triple H’s face, much to the delight of all the fans in attendance.

CM Punk could not be stopped.

The next week on Raw, Mysterio defeated The Miz to win his first WWE Title. But then the problems started.

John Cena won the title back from Mysterio in the same episode. And who returns in this very action packed episode of Raw?

So this whole storyline where Punk was sick of WWE and wasn’t going to play by their rules or re-sign is shot to shit. Sure, it was awesome to see Punk show up and have their suddenly be TWO WWE Titles. But why so soon?

Del Rio had been in place since the Royal Rumble to win the WWE Title at some point. The WWE held back his title push in favor of the Cena/Miz feud continuing from Wrestlemania XXVII and then had Cena help R-Truth get over as a heel. Why not bring the Del Rio/Cena feud into the picture? Was there a fear of low buy rates for SummerSlam after seeing the high numbers from Money In The Bank?

Punk was brought back too soon. His run from the Raw after Capital Punishment to Money In The Bank was unlike anything seen in the WWE in years. Non fans were talking about the WWE. Sports shows were mentioning CM Punk and the WWE. The WWE was doing something different. There was no reason to hold Punk out until at least the SummerSlam PPV or even the Raw after. The anticipation was there.

But now we have two WWE Titles.

Punk continued to put in excellent mic and in-ring work leading up to his SummerSlam rematch with Cena. He was over with the crowd. Everything he said became trending topics on Twitter. His “Best In The World” shirt was selling out as fast as the WWE could make them. But I could feel the magic of June 27 slowly fading away. Especially once Triple H inserted himself as special guest referee in the Punk/Cena Undisputed Title match at SummerSlam.

At SummerSlam, Punk and Cena had another great match. Nowhere near the classic of Money In The Bank, but still thoroughly satifying. But then things went from great to sour really fast.
Punk defeated Cena with a GTS when Triple H failed to see Cena’s foot on the rope. Triple H put Punk over as the true champion and left Punk to celebrate. A returning Kevin Nash (who we hadn’t seen since his appearance as Diesel at the Royal Rumble) came through the crowd, entered the ring, clotheslined Punk, proceeded to Jackknife Powerbomb the living daylights out of him, and then left as Triple H watched with a look of bewilderment. Alberto Del Rio rushed to the ring with his MITB briefcase and a ref, landed a poorly executed kick to Punk’s head, and pinned the new champ to become the new WWE Champion.

I was anxious to see what Punk would say on Raw. I figured he would come out ready to fight everybody who’s name wasn’t John Cena. He was “The Best In The World” and he had been screwed out of his WWE Title (even though technically Cena got screwed first). Surely a rampage of epic proportions was in order.

Instead, he came out to confront Kevin Nash, who had come to Raw to explain his actions at SummerSlam. That confrontation led to Triple H joining the two and suddenly, a new storyline was formed.

About a text message Kevin Nash had received.

From “I hate this company and what it’s come to, then going to “Why did you help Triple H screw me out of my WWE Title”?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t get any better for Phil. Come back for Part 2.

Yeah. I’m not thrilled about this.

I’m Kelen “B Hyphen” Conley. Rapper, writer, shoe salesmen. But most importantly for this, I am a lifelong wrestling fan. I plan on being the wrestling blogger for BDL as long as they’ll have me but enough of the formalities.

Mark Henry is World Heavyweight Champion.

I repeat. Mark. Henry. Is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

I’m not in shock that he beat my current favorite wrestler Randy Orton. I’m more shocked the WWE actually put it’s most historic title on the World’s Strongest Man. For years, Henry has toiled at mid-card level as he bounced from the Nation of Domination to his Sexual Chocolate storyline (look it up), to a guy who was thrown at Superstars who had been with WWE for shorter time periods as a “challenge”. Sure, WWE threw the now defunct ECW title on Henry a few years back but anyone who’s watched WWE for a month could tell you Mark never got a fair shot.

But more on that later. Match-by-match thoughts:

The Miz & R-Truth vs. Air Boom

Since WWE has no idea what to do with Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne, they’ve been forged into the tag team of “Air Boom”. And since CM Punk has forced his way into the main events over the past few months, they don’t really have anything for former WWE Title holder The Miz or token black wrestler turned crazy person R-Truth to do either. So we get this match.

Air Boom won because Truth was distracting the referee when his partner clearly had Bourne beaten and pinned. When Miz didn’t get his 3 -count, he pushed the referee and cost his team the match. So Miz and Truth attack the referee and complain of a conspiracy as the cameras fade.

Let it be said: I hate the WWE tag division because it’s been non-existent for years. But instead of putting time into rebuilding the tag teams or even eliminating the belt, WWE forces stars to tag who have no chemistry with each other and we get matches like this. Air Boom will live on for a few more pay-per-views before Kofi and Evan have to face each in a singles match, signaling their team’s end. Miz will eventually get moved back into a Singles title picture and Truth will fall back to his mid-card status, crazy or not. I’d rather the Cruiserweight or European Title be brought back instead of watching half thought through matches like this one.

Ted DiBiase vs. Cody Rhodes

Even though Orton’s Legacy faction was broken up two Wrestlemania’s ago, WWE still insists on keeping DiBiase and Rhodes intertwined. This match was written straight to the point though, with Rhodes winning after DiBiase failed to use Cody’s mask against him. I’ve always liked Rhodes and DiBiase since they debuted but WWE really needs to let them get away from each other. At least for a year. I’d perfer to see Christian, Sheamus, or another SmackDown wrestler get a shot at the IC Title. That would clear up at least some of the wrestlers vying for Henry’s World Title. Cody and Ted will probably have a rematch at Hell In A Cell though.

John Morrison vs. Alex Riley vs. Jack Swagger vs. Dolph Ziggler

Morrison is the only wrestler who interested me in this match. Riley is a wrestler who is better off in a tag team, Swagger has decent ring skills but no mic skills (get him a manager that’s not Vickie!), and Ziggler is stuck in a dead end story line with Vickie. Sure, Ziggler won the match and retained the US Title but even Vickie doesn’t take him seriously anymore. I’m sure this match will just lead to more storylines with these 5 but I really wish Morrison would get a shot to hold a title again.

Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton

Orton has turned into SmackDown’s John Cena with the World Title never leaving his waist for more than 2 PPV’s at the most. But this was the best writing WWE had all night. A physical match all the way through, I thought it was over for Henry when Orton hit his trademark DDT. But when Orton got careless, he was tossed into the ropes unexpectedly and got kicked in the knee and the whole tide changed. With Henry back on his feet, Orton went for a desperation RKO, but Henry just shoved him away. As Orton staggered to his feet, the World’s Strongest Man collected him up for a World’s Strongest Slam (which Randy had kicked out of earlier in the match) and it was over. Henry took the mic and screamed at the crowd for not believing in him then walked off with the gold.

I’m happy for Henry. Since R-Truth’s heel turn and his own turn were so close together, I almost thought WWE was leading to a minority fueled faction that would demand that the WWE give them a chance finally. But I like Henry’s one man against the world storyline much better. Randy will get his rematch at Hell In A Cell, unless they do it on SmackDown, but don’t be surprised to see Sheamus challenging for the belt sooner than later.

Beth Phoenix vs. Kelly Kelly

For years, WWE has let go of every single Diva that could actually wrestle (Gail Kim actually quit after a dead end storyline with Daniel Bryan). But they’re pushing Phoenix and Natalya as the Divas who can bring respect back to the Divas division (which was what Kharma was supposed to do until she came up pregnant) and they’ve been challenging Eve and Kelly Kelly for weeks now. So common sense: have Phoenix win the belt, right? No. Kelly Kelly wins after taking a powerbomb from Phoenix like it tickled. The Divas division never concerns me too much but something different needs to happen. Or just keep the Divas on the Superstars show.

John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio
Cena wins. He was due after putting CM Punk over at the Money In The Bank & Summer Slam PPV’s. But I really feel this cheapens all the build up the WWE had been doing with Del Rio since he won the Royal Rumble. Del Rio had successfully terrorized many Superstars since January and his rise to the WWE Ttitle made sense (especially since so many storyline changes had occurred since the Rumble that prevented him from winning the Title before Summer Slam) but having Cena play the hero again and win the Title rather easily is typical WWE writing. Of course, this could open the lane for another Punk/Cena match at Hell In The Cell but with Punk rapidly becoming a face (and shaking Cena’s hand at house shows) Del Rio will get another shot. WWE really needs to push the fact that Del Rio is still the most dangerous man on Raw tho.

CM Punk vs. Triple H

This match was well-written as well but it was predictable. Miz and Truth get more screen time by interfering, Laurinaitis (who looks scared to death out there) is seen texting, Kevin Nash appears and attacks everyone, Triple H brings back the sledgehammer, nails Nash, and then finally beats Punk to remain COO.
This match was highly entertaining so I can look past WWE stopping Punk’s cutting edge storyline to wrestle The Game. We didn’t need Miz and Truth here. They didn’t further their conspiracy claims by trying to make HHH lose. Everyone knew Nash would be back but WWE is smart for having him attack Triple H as well as Punk. Now it seems Laurinaitis is the one who is pulling Nash’s strings and starts a feud between him and Triple H.

But here’s the problem: Nash appeared to be injured after the match. He’s supposed to wrestle Punk at Hell In A Cell. What can they possibly do with Punk if Nash (who was held back from wrestling at this PPV) can’t wrestle again? And how does this affect Punk’s storyline if he’s stuck wrestling HHH again? Not to say Triple H can’t still hold his own in the ring but why would WWE want to delay their hottest star?

Of course, all of this is just speculation and reaction. PPV’s are where the matches happen. Raw and SmackDown are for the storyline progression. We’ll talk more after Raw tonight.

"Up In The Clouds": 1000+ Downloads

It took 20 days of posting the download link 3 times a day but "Up In The Clouds" is the first #28YearsLater track to reach 1000+ downloads.

I had no idea when I started this music series that I'd be able to reach such a number. I figured each song I did would be lucky to hit 100 downloads. Ever since I dropped "I Got Em" tho, the numbers have steadily climbed.

I really didn't expect a song to exceed "What It Look Like" so fast. I had been sitting on "W.I.L.L." for a year+ before I finally dropped it. As my planned first single from SPIDEYVILLE UNLIMITED, I had high hopes for the song and its 550 downloads stood as an achievement that I was on the right track musically. Hell, even WVAQ's listeners agreed when "W.I.L.L." won the Showdown segment on The Knight Show.

But "Up In The Clouds" was just supposed to be a fun track. I thought it would hit 200 downloads and then I'd be on to the next song ("Sometimes" produced by Marcus D'Tray). But the numbers climbed faster than any other #28YearsLater track ever had with some days clearing 100 downloads alone. Who knew that this 2010 Darwin Deez track would bring me such luck? All kinds of people let me know by phone, on facebook, and on twitter how much they were digging it. So since it was clean anyway (smart thinking on my part), I emailed it to Jason Knight for placement in a future Showdown. When that happens, I'll let you know.

I know I still have a long way to go as far as exposure goes but I feel this is a nice milestone. It shows that at least someone out there is listening (or clicking!) and all I ever wanted was to be heard. I plan on recording a new vlog to commemorate the occasion and to give everyone an update on things since I've been promoting this song for 20 days. It'll be posted here and on my other sites as soon as it's ready.

I first began work on this track way back in the summer of 2009. It was originally designed to be a club track built around Kanye's "Monster" sample called "Have Another One". I got positive feedback for the most part but I felt like it was missing something. I performed this live for the first time that same summer and I absolutely HATED the response. So I threw it in the archives. For some reason a few months later, I became obsessed with Stevie Wonder's "Rocket Love". After repeatedly playing that classic song to death, I got the idea of transform my club track into one man's plight to escape his broken heart. Once I redesigned the beat and laid my new vocals, I enlisted Thack to add his patented flow to the final verse after I supposedly leave the club after my second verse. Originally intended for Spideyville Unlimited, #28YearsLater I give you "This Ain't About You".

The Making of the "Passion" Video

I knew from the moment I recorded "Passion" that I wanted to shoot a video for it. There was just something about the way I had put it together and recorded it over a few days time that made this record special to me.

Even tho it's not officially my beat, I really took care to express myself in a manner that was direct, brazen, and fierce. Or in other words completely different from a normal B Hyphen track. The song really represents a change for me in the way I approach music. With "Durantula", I cracked the door open to a completely confident rapper, something I was never able to say about myself. "Passion" is basically me turning into the Hulk and destroying poor Bruce Banner for good. While I don't feel like I'm losing any part of my artistry, I do feel this is a new chapter for B Hyphen. Super Saiyan Level 2 if you will.

Since I've been trying to learn how to edit video to help out E with all the hours of SV footage he has anyway, I knew it would be easiest if I shot the footage myself. I shot 5 different scenes that would be spliced throughout the video starting with the basic path I walk from my home in South Park to the WVU campus most days. Shot in early, cold January, I felt the footage would show the path that I've been on, a cold lonely one almost.
The second shot is a live sideshow of pictures I found on Google Images. Each picture is supposed to represent moments in the song in a clearer way for the listener. I like to think of it as my way of "decoding" without having to write out the specific meanings behind certain bars. I also feel the live slideshow is more interactive than the standard video slideshow that you see all over YouTube. The other three shots are all of me rapping to the song with my face partially obscured by a hoodie. The hoodie has always been a symbol of the prizefighter in my eyes. Training, sweating, punching the bags, sparring. All those things show the passion the fighter has for his sport of boxing. So while it may be in fact dumb to hide my face as the artist on the song, I think it gives off the idea that I'm training as I rap to the track; that I'm as passionate about music as a fighter is about boxing.

I've been doing all the editing with Sony Vegas Pro. While it's not Final Cut Pro or iMovie, it's still a pretty powerful program. I've been able to create a video that doesn't look like a bunch of standard scenes just thrown together. I have about 2 minutes left to edit (I think) and I'm really pleased with what I have so far.

I don't expect this video to make me stand out more or even help me gain more respect honestly. Finishing this video is a personal goal I set for myself and is the first in hopefully many to come. I hope it exposes me to new fans and shows that I'm taking steps that show I'm finally serious about my rap career.

And best of all, I'll have a dope-ass self produced video. Coming soon...

Local rappers Willz P and B Hyphen will be celebrating their third annual birthday bash at Buck's Corner Pub Saturday.

The show will help feature local artists, said Kelen Conley, whose stage name is B Hyphen.

That, and celebrate their birthdays. Conley's birthday is Jan. 22 while Willz's is today.

Both will be performing material for the crowd.

"Willz's got the God-given ability to wow the crowd with the smallest notes," Conley said.

Other performers will include Travis Dupri of Martinsburg and some beats by DJ Monsta Lung.

Phyr Squad's Mizzle, Quote of Ill League Entertainment, and Voyce of Music Evolving will also be in attendance.

Performances will vary from 10 minutes to 15 minutes each, Conley said.

"It's something we do for fun every year," Conley said. "It's a way to have a sweet birthday and put on a good show."

The event is sponsored by U92's Urban Diner and www.partymonstas.com. Conley hosts the Urban Diner show for the University's official college radio station.

Despite its name, the show isn't just about the host's birthdays.

"We don't just want to perform," Willz P said. "We want to touch people. We want to make them feel good."

"If you're interested in seeing some fresh talent, some old music and some new tracks ... come out for some good music."

Doors open at 10 p.m. with a $5 cover.

"Everyone loves a birthday party," Conley said. "Buck's has a great atmosphere, great specials, and you'll get to hear music from the local music scene."
